Splore 2010

It happens only every second summer and is renowned for integrating and showcasing all creative disciplines into one weekend that delights, surprises and stimulates the senses of its audience. It’s the Splore festival and returns for the eighth time this summer on February 19th – 21st, 2010.

There’s great music and a whole lot more at Splore 2010. An exciting mix of strong local talent and international performers will take to the stages next February against the backdrop of the idyllic Tapapakanga Regional Park, just 70km south-east of Auckland.

Splore is bringing you the party to be at this summer with Basement Jaxx (UK) (DJ Set) and Lupe Fiasco (USA) headlining the 2010 festival in February. Also adding to the eclectic music lineup, Splore brings to the fore the following acts who will take to the stages at Splore 2010:

Jamie Lidell (UK), Nickodemus (USA), Mystro (UK), d Bridge & Instra:mental present Club Automatic (UK), The Gaslamp Killer (USA), Spektrum (UK), Kid Carpet (UK), Daniel Haaksman (GER), 10 Sui (UK), Dub FX (AUS), Spikey Tee (UK/AUS), Mikki Dee (IRE), Sola Rosa, Tahuna Breaks, Minuit, Electric Wire Hustle, Pitch Black, King Kapisi, Nathan Haines, Clap Clap Riot, Zoh Zoh, Olmecha Supreme, Nick D, Philippa, Dubhead, Murray Cammick, Bobbito Brazuka and Jennifer Zea, Six 60, Easy, The Nukes, Doc Westie, Kidz in Space and North Shore Pony Club.

It sounds utopian, a place where music, art and nature merge to inspire a weekend of joyous celebration. Splore isn’t so much a festival, as a life experience that continues to bring together people from all over the world to frolic in the summer splendor at the Tapapakanga Regional Park, a slice of coastal paradise on the Hauraki Gulf, just 70km south east of Auckland.

Music is just one part of the multifaceted Splore experience which combines live dramatic and cabaret performances in the Living Lounge, community interaction through workshops, a festive ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream 2050’ themed party and a visual arts exhibition within the Art Trail.

Don’t miss out on Splore 2010, a genuine bona fide three-day summer festival where people come together to celebrate in a sustainable environment, and experience a culmination of outstanding music and arts in one of the best festival sites in the world.

Splore is family friendly, catering to children and families with a kids zone, a family only camping area, and a teen zone.

Carnival

Tauranga is launching a cultural music party called Carnival that acknowledges the popularity of South American culture in the Bay and celebrates our own home-grown culture, together.

Carnival is being held on Saturday 6th March 2010 and is the closing party of the new nine-day Kiwi Festival which organisers believe will become an iconic annual celebration, thanks to the strong support of Zespri, the founding sponsor of the festival.

Carnival is a celebration of global culture, performance and music and is big in every sense of the word. Festival favourites Kora, Batucada Sound Machine, Tahuna Breaks, Kantuta and local Bay favourites Tauranga Samba and Regan make up the perfect blend of Kiwi and South American inspired music.

Kiwi Festival Director Jamie Joseph says there are a lot of South Americans now living the in the Bay of Plenty and they bring with them their unrivalled passion for music – which you might find if you get too close - is contagious.

“Not only will we have some of the hottest bands in New Zealand, but there will be live street art, rovers, stilt walkers, Capoeira and samba performances too. It’s going to be non-stop entertainment with Tauranga Samba performing Brazilian street style percussion in between the bands and complementing showcases of Capoeira - a form of martial arts and dance practised globally that incorporates attack and defence movements with music and song, while developing the mastery of body and mind,” says Joseph.

Festival goers are being encouraged to dress up in outlandish Carnival costumes with awesome prizes being given to the best dressed. Joseph is expecting thousands to catch the festival fever. “The power of music will bring together a mass of like-minded people who all share that common zest for life. It’s party time!” she says.

Those wanting to make a long weekend of it will also get the opportunity to attend a Capoeira workshop on the Thursday leading into the Carnival. Other weekend options include a coastal steam train tour with the Bay of Plenty Steamer and some extreme adventure deals from Springloaded Fun Park.

Set in the park grounds of Wharepai Domain on Cameron Road, Central Tauranga, this will be an epic day in the sun with the gates opening at 3pm sharp.Weekend travel options will be launched soon!
